The temperature is rising and the days are getting longer. It’s a great time to get out into the garden!

Here are 3 things you should do in your Long Island garden this weekend:

1. Take Care of Your Crabgrass NOW!

This coming week is the perfect time to put your crabgrass control down on the lawn. Some lawn fertilizer will help your grass green up and fill in thin areas. If a pH test shows your lawn needs lime, now is a great time to apply it. Learn more about how to care for your lawn here.

2. Fertilize Your Plants

Your perennials and evergreens are also waking up from their winter sleep. An application of a good organic plant food will get them off to a good start for the spring.

3. Plant Cool Weather Veggies

It’s a good time to plant cool season vegetables like lettuce, kale, cabbage etc. Preparing the soil now for your warm weather vegetables will save you time later when you have other things to do in the garden.

Remember, nights are still cool so think carefully about when to move your indoor plants outside for their summer vacation in your yard. I’m still two weeks away from putting out my plants.
