Fall Family Festival Returns to Hicks Nurseries

We’re about one month away from the start of our annual Fall Festival here at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury and we could not be more excited! Our staff is hard at work building the new hayride and designing the animated children’s story. We’re also prepping the nursery for thousands of pumpkins, amazing apple cider from the Jericho Cider Mill and fresh roasted corn among many other delicious treats.

We’re proud to offer a fun environment that brings multiple generations of families together year after year.  Join us September 16th through October 29th for hayrides, roasted corn, live animals, pumpkins and more! Free parking and admission.

Here is a list of the many other events to enjoy at Hicks Nurseries this Fall:

Animated Children’s Story Featuring Otto the Ghost
September 16th through October 31st. Daily 8am-6pm
Come and see the all new animated story titled, “Otto’s Special Pumpkin”. The story explores Otto’s relationship with friends Spider and Bat and the importance of respecting each other’s differences.  Open daily 8am-6pm. Admission is free but we would greatly appreciate donations of non-perishable food items for Long Island Cares.

Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Fall Harvest Competition
Sunday, October 1st at 11am
Everyone is invited to participate in this exciting competition which not only includes giant pumpkins but additional categories for large, unique and decorated vegetables. In addition to awards for the 3 heaviest pumpkins, new categories include “Best Decorated Vegetable”, “Coolest Giant Vegetable or Flower” and “Best Fall Bouquet”. All Children who enter will be awarded a certificate of participation. Contestants who need to have their pumpkins unloaded must be at the nursery no later than 10am.

Pumpkin Weigh-Off Prizes:
1st place: $400; 2nd place: $200; 3rd place: $100; Best Pumpkin Grown by a Child: (ages 15 years old and younger) A ribbon and a free hayride for their family.

Fall Harvest Categories:
1st Place: $50 gift certificate to Hicks Nurseries; 2nd Place: $25 gift certificate to Hicks Nurseries; 3rd Place: $10 gift certificate to Hicks Nurseries.

 

Ottos Candy HouseChildren’s Workshop: Decorate a House for Otto
Friday, October 13th. Choose 4pm or 6pm session.
Children will create a house out of candy for Otto! We will supply the house and all of the candy and icing. Reservations are required. Please call 516-334-0066. Cost: $15.00 per child.

 

Child Painting PumpkinChildren’s Workshop: Decorate a Spooky Pumpkin
Friday, October 20th. Choose 4pm or 6pm session.
Children will have a blast while using their imagination to decorate a spooky pumpkin for Halloween! We will supply the pumpkin and all of the decorations. Reservations are required. Please call 516-334-0066. Cost: $10.00 per child.

 

Pet Parade & Costume Competition
Wednesday, October 18th. Parade begins at 5pm, Costume Competition begins at 6pm.
Bring your pets to Hicks Nurseries for our second annual Pet Parade! Travel down a decorated path to meet Otto the Ghost. You’ll also have the opportunity to enter your pet in our Pet Costume Competition! Please help support Long Island Pets by bringing pet food, new toys, cat litter, leashes and other items to donate to Long Island Cares for pets in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Turkey planterChildren’s Workshop: Create a Potted Turkey
Friday, November 17th. Choose 4pm or 6pm session.
Decorate a clay pot with feathers, eyes, mouth and feet and then plant it with a colorful croton plant. Reservations are required. Please call 516-334-0066. Cost: $10.00 per child.
