Christmas at Hicks

Posted on July 16, 2013

12/01/2014 – 12/26/2014 all-day

ChristmasChristmas begins at Hicks Nurseries with the opening of the Christmas animated story and the arrival of Santa Claus. Santa is available weekdays and weekends for picture taking with your own camera. Additionally, children can mail a letter to Santa in our special North Pole mailbox and get a response! Our real, live reindeer bring smiles to the faces of many children and adults, as well as a serving as a reminder that Santa will be coming to your home soon! Our music on the weekends has become a family favorite.

A warm cup of hot chocolate or cider while picking out your tree in a covered area will become a family tradition.

Will your Christmas festivities be up and running the Saturday after Thanksgiving which is November 30th? You have Dec. 1st listed as the first day, however the past few years we have been there for the Christmas events on the Sat. of Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll be so disappointed if things have changed. We live in Massachusetts and travel down to visit family and that is the only weekend we are there…. my husband grew up in Westbury and has gone to see the Christmas display every year as a kid and now we do it with our kids. Since we travel back home on Sunday, Saturday is our only option. Please, please, please open on Nov. 30th!!!!
    Thanks, June and Don Casale

      Hi June,

It’s so wonderful to hear you and your family still come back to Hicks Nurseries! Yes, everything will be set up prior to your arrival, typically by November 9th. I’ll have to update our calendar to properly reflect this. Thanks for the catch and enjoy your visit!

  2. Shine says:

Is there an entrance fee for Christmas at Hicks? How much is the picture with Santa?

    • Karen Musgrave says:

Hi Shine, we do not charge an entrance fee for Christmas at Hicks Nurseries, and pictures with Santa are free! Bring your own camera. Hope you are able to visit soon!

Your Santa is the best. Everyone loves him.

  5. Bobbi Lopez says:

Will you be offering live, plantable christmas trees this year? They are usually sold in a burlap sack contains the roots. And if so, do you offer the service of digging the hole in our yard before the ground freezes? We are located by Bethpage Park in Farmingdale? Thank you. Happy Holidays…

    • Hicks Nurseries says:

Hi Bobbi, thank you for your question. Yes, we do carry dwarf alberta spruce and nordman spruce that you could use indoors as a live christmas tree, but both are under 4 feet tall and come planted in small pots. We do not carry larger burlapped trees for Christmas. Let us know if we can help with anything else. Happy Holidays!

  6. Jason Cruz says:

As children, our grandmother would take us to Hicks to see Otto the Ghost, The Christmas Display, and The Easter Rabbit Display (forgot the rabbit’s name). She resides in Westbury and we would always go back to her house and play afterwards. I remember going each year and being sad to leave but more excited for the next year. I can proudly say that My son and I have not missed A display since he was born. I hope to make the same childhood memories I was so fortunate to have. Hicks does a GREAT JOB and will always have a place in my heart.

  7. Cathy Minero says:

There is a posting in Newsday for a Holiday Wreath making scheduled for Wednesday, Dec 14th and Thursday, Dec 15th at Hicks Nursery, 100 Jericho Tpke, Westbury at 4:00 pm. It said: INFO: $9, 516-334-0066; Children will decorate an artificial wreath with the symbols of the holiday and reservations are required.

As I don’t see this listed on your calendar of events, can you tell me if you are still offering it.

    Thanks much,

    • Karen Musgrave says:

Hi Cathy, Newsday has made an error. We do not have any children’s workshops scheduled for December. Sorry about the confusion.

  8. norman block says:

need to know the hours and cost …if any.. to take my grandson, to view your animated christmas display also, do you have a petting zoo, this time of year ?? waiting for your response… thanks

    • Karen Musgrave says:

Hi Norman, our current store hours are Monday-Saturday 8am-9pm, Sundays 8am-8pm. There is no cost for the animated story. We do not have a petting zoo at this time of year but we do have 2 live reindeer on display (Blizten & Vixen). Also, Santa is here daily 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. Hope you and your grandson enjoy your visit!

  9. Debby says:

Will you still be accepting the food donations after Christmas?

    • Karen Musgrave says:

Hi Debby, our food drive ends on December 24th but Long Island Cares has many food drop-off locations around Long Island. Visit for the location closest to you. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

We get our tree from Hick’s every year, it has become a tradition for our family.. Kids love to see the reindeer.

Have a question. When is the last day to mail a letter to Santa ?

  11. Sarah says:

Will Santa be there until the 31st? We haven’t been able to make it yet and want to come later today, but things are crazy!!

    • Karen Musgrave says:

Hi Sarah, Santa’s last day at Hicks Nurseries is Monday, December 23rd. He needs plenty of time to get back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve. His hours on Monday are 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. Hope you can squeeze a visit in! Happy Holidays!
